Overview: You’ve stared the dazzling brain images on PowerPoints, papers, and websites. But what do these pictures mean? What do they represent? And what’s the connection between the giant donut magnet and the images you see?

The goal of this review is to conceptually overview how neuroimaging—specifically magnetic resonance imaging—works and what it sets out to accomplish.
